The Promise of Reducing Road Crashes and Vehicle (Essay Sample) Content: On the promise of reducing road crashes and vehicle insurance rates, the US law makers passed the seat-belt law in 1985. Whereas some legislators with vested interests had proposed the law prior to 1985, most of them rejected the proposal because they knew that a majority of the people disapproved them. Neverthess, the government spends hundreds of millions of dollars in enforcing the seat-belt laws while overloading the society with horrendous tax burdens. I am of the opinion that seat-belt laws should not be enforced.Seat belt laws infringe peoples rights as guaranteed in the Fourth Amendments. By denying the people through prior restraint the right to choose whether or not to buckle up, the government is intruding into the peoples private lives.Although seat-belt use might protect some passengers in certain kinds of road accidents, there is overwhelming evidence that in other kinds of deaths, passengers have been more critically injured and even killed despite buck ling up their seat belts. Some people have narrowly escaped death in certain kinds of crashes only because they did not wear seatbelts. The government has no right to subject people to injury and fatality in certain types of accidents just because it hopes others will be saved in other kinds of crashes simply by chance.As for the premise that seat-belt regulations would cut ...
